As many of you know, I've been thinking of switching to a custom domain for sometime now. But, with the crazy turn life has taken in the last 6 weeks or so, those plans have been put on the back burner. I need to be able to more research and figure out just exactly what I'm getting into. With my time being somewhat limited lately, it's been difficult to research anything!I am not real tech savvy, so things like dedicated server hosting were Greek to me until recently. This site has lots of information that has helped me understand web hosting a bit better. The offer a blog with helpful articles like Advanced Web Hosting Technology, which helped me understand lots of the techie jargon I was unfamiliar with. Plus, the site lists the Top Ten Web Hosts, complete with prices, bonus features, and more. It's great for comparison shopping!
I am not quite ready to make the leap yet, I still feel I have much to learn, but Web hosting Geeks has really helped me understand some things much better. I know that when I do switch from the Blogger platform that I need to have an email account associated with my site, and I suppose ample storage space, but past that I am unsure of my needs. The internet is a vast place and trying to learn all the ins and outs can be quite a task! I know some of you have your own nonBlogger hosted custom domains, and I would really appreciate any advice you could give me. I look forward to reading about your experiences with this.

I read a blog book over the summer too! I think I'll stick with bogger. Very easy.
Hey girl!
This is my AWESOME hosting guy - http://www.uncorrupted.net/
I LOVE him! He switched me from Blogger to WP (love WP!), and has helped me with everything. He is wonderful. He even has a special going on right now...

I had a similar experience when I started. I do my site in Joomla and my DH does his (When he does it) in WordPress. Both are pretty easy to use but WP seems more versatile.

This is something I wouldn't have thought of (although I am too cheep to pay for a domain anyway) but you might also want to check out the IP address and see if the host also hosts malicious sites. If they do some malware programs will also block your site. To better explain, there is this http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=22007 I found this because this software was blocking my blog and a friend let me know. It turns out that theblogfrog uses the same IP as many malicious sites and so it was causeing my blog to be blocked.
Which may all be more (and confusing) info than you really wanted but since I spent 3 hours today trying to find out the problem, you get to learn about it.
I am using go daddy through blogger and it is only $10 a year it is not hard to change to and trust me worth the $10 with no hassle.
