Texas has snakes. Lots of snakes. Our particular neck of the woods is known for copperheads. It's fun to think about that while walking through the weeds to the close line or heading from the house out to the laundry room in the dark. The only snakes I've actually seen here have been grass snakes, but I know their are venomous ones I need to keep an eye out for. But never in my life have I seen something like the giant rattle snake that was killed in Manor, TX just a few weeks ago. I know we grow them big in Texas, but this snake is flat out scary! Click

Maybe he won't drink your root beer, but he could very well eat your dog!

Those kind you can keep. I like the smaller, non-venomous snakes. My sister had two when in high school, and one would sit on your lap and let you pet it. The other you had to hang onto or it would slither away. That made me enjoy snakes.
