I have decided that I am going to introduce some classic movies to the kids this summer. My neighbor Lynette wants to introduce her daughter to musicals she's never seen, so all our kids will be experiencing these films for the first time. It should be fun.
I am currently brainstorming movies, trying to get a good mix of genres that I think Tristen and Ashley will enjoy. It is harder than i thought it would be. So far I've come up with:
Musicals
- Singin' in the Rain
- My Fair Lady
- Meet Me in St. Louis
- The Sound of Music
- The King and I
Comedy
- The Philadelphia Story (1940)
- Harvey (1950)
- Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948)
- Father of the Bride (1950)
- Woman of the Year (1942)
I would love to hear your suggestions about family friendly classic films. We love movie nights around here and I'm really looking forward to sharing some great flicks with my kiddos.

I would add Oklahoma, seven brides for seven brothers, bringing up baby, old yeller, pollyanna, Swiss family Robinson, sound of music, wizard of oz, the Philadelphia story, shirley temple(anything), old betty boop, sabrina, arsenic and old lace, anything Doris Day,
I love classics and sharing them with my kids
I love Harvey.
Mr. Smith goes to Washington is good. It's a wonderful life is a must see. (LOL)
The Music Man, anything Rogers & Hammerstein did.
On your layout, I really liked your old layout, but I guess it was dark. The flowers are very "you" I think. The white background might be tooo white, but it is still a nice layout.
Great idea! My son is 14 now but I still sneak in the occasional classic.
I would suggest the original Parent Trap, National Velvet (Liz Taylor) and although it's a little early:)...for the holidays, I love Holiday Inn.

The Thin Man Series are good. Katie loves them. She is also in love with Oliver, Some Like It Hot and of course your Uncle's favorite John Wayne movies. McClintock would be great for both Tristen & Ahsley. Ashley might not understand Some Like It Hot, but I think you, Dan & Tristen would enjoy it.
Also consider introducing your kiddos to Hitchcock....not The Birds or Psycho to start with, but maybe To Catch A Thief, North By Northwest or Rear Window. It's always fun to see where in each movie Hitch makes his cameo appearance....not quite as easy to see him in Rope of Lifeboat.
You mentioned Cary Grant. How about Father Goose or Operation Petticoat? Or better yet, Bringing Up Baby with Katherine Hepburn.
Another classic movie star to get your kids interested in is Humphrey Bogart. Try The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Key Largo.
Any of these movies that have any shooting never show any blood and best of all, the good guy always win.
The original Parent Trap with Haley Mills is great. Also consider the original Yours, Mine and Ours.
Doris Day and Rock Hudson movies are also fun to watch.
So is this enough suggestions? Start making your list.
Here's a few of the classic Westerns I never get tried of watching. Ashley might not be as interested in, but rest of family should enjoy--Stagecoach, Red River (about early cattle drive}, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, Fort Apache and probably my all time favorite the Searchers.
